Oh my God. Major Dick Winters just passed away. http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.s
I'm not even sure what to say. I'm not surprised, because he was 92, but it still breaks my heart to know that such a great man is not here anymore. After watching the Band of Brothers mini-series, I read more about him and grew to have such a large amount of respect for him. The word "hero" is tossed around nowadays to those who don't deserve it, but he was one who deserved it. He was a hero of mine. I won't lie, I'm actually tearing up now. It's silly, but there are so few people similar to him, that it's sad to have such a great man leave us. And I had always hoped that he would be the last to go, so that everyone could greet him once he passed. Far-fetched, but still.
Ok. I'll end on a light note: I'll simply say that he was a wonderful man who was a true hero, and that I'm hoping once he passed, that he was greeted by Harry, Luz, Toye and all of the others who left before him, and that Nix was at the beginning of line, saying, "Going my way?" :)
Rest in peace Major Winters. At least you found the peace you always wanted. Thank you for letting the world know how wonderfula man you were. You won't be forgotten.
